There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. He himself was not the light, but he came to testify to the light. The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world. (John 1:6-9, NRSV)
We were reminded in yesterday’s devotional that Jesus is the Light of the world. Today, we learn that even the Light of the world needs people who are willing to bear witness to Him.
I used my Hilton Honors American Express card yesterday. Every time I use it, I am awarded points which add up to free nights in any Hilton hotel. Over the years, I’ve convinced quite a few friends to get one of these cards because of the benefits associated with it. I’ve often joked that I wish I could say that I’ve led as many people to Jesus as I have to this credit card.
What we bear witness to, what we testify about, makes a difference in things far more important than credit cards. The One who came on the first Christmas still comes today. In what ways do we bear witness to his coming?
May God grant us grace to bear witness to the Light.
